At the World Circular Economy Forum held in São Paulo in May 2025, co-chairs Janez Potočnik and Izabella Teixeira of the International Resource Panel called upon all international organizations to become proactive stewards of sustainable material use globally. The world is not on track to fully deliver on the ambitions under Sustainable Development Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production. Systemic changes that lead to sustainable production and consumption and the sustainable management of natural resources will be key, if we want to address the triple planetary crisis and create an economy and society with wellbeing for all. As called for in the Council Conclusions on the 8th Environment Action Programme mid-term review, adopted in June 2024, an integrated EU long-term vision for the transition to a Circular Economy and sustainable resource use is needed. OVAM is one of the organisations that supports this message. Learn more about this initiative here.
