Packaging Plan (2018)

The plan focuses on: (i) fighting the problem of litter, (ii) increasing separated collection and recycling, (iii) more attention to packaging design and distribution methods and (iv) more local recycling.

The Government of Flanders approved a packaging plan on 20 July 2018. The plan aims for recycling of 65% of plastic packaging by 2023 and 70% by 2030. Another specific aim is to make all packaging reusable, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025.

This plan also introduces the obligation to separately collect all plastic packaging in a blue recycling bag (as opposed to only plastic bottles, metal packaging and drink cartons).
