Circular economy ideas across borders: OVAM welcomes Indonesian experts

OVAM recently welcomed an Indonesian delegation for an intensive week-long exchange programme on the circular economy. The delegation, comprising representatives from ministries, regional authorities, the diplomatic service and international partners, spent a week in Belgium and the Netherlands to exchange knowledge and experiences with a wide range of stakeholders.

During their visit to OVAM, the participants were introduced to Flanders’ waste and materials policy. They also gained an insight into initiatives such as Circular Flanders and the work of VITO. In the afternoon, a round-table discussion took place on Extended Producer Responsibility, with contributions from, amongst others, the European Commission, local authorities, producer organisations and the recycling sector.

The discussions were open, interactive and inspiring. There was ample opportunity for questions, exchange of views and reflection on how different systems and approaches can reinforce one another.

Such international exchanges demonstrate the strong interest in Flanders'expertise in sustainable materials management. Meanwhile, they also offer added value to OVAM and its partners helping us to take a renewed look at our own operations and to continue our efforts to improve.
