Remediation works at the confluence area of the Grote Laak are temporarily on-hold

The OVAM and the VMM appointed end of 2023 a contractor for the remediation works on the Grote Laak near Trichelbroek and Zammelsbroek. Due to excessive rainfall in the winter of 2023-2024 and the wet spring and summer of 2024, the works could not yet start. In the summer of 2024 we carried out some measures to drain the lowlands in preparation of the works, but the risk remained too high to work in too wet and inaccessible circumstances. Among others, we mowed the upcoming plants and grasses in the stream and created a better stream channel in the Grote Laak by placing sediment on the winter bed. These measures have a favorable effect so that we can start this year from a better starting position. We are currently coordinating the different steps in site preparation with the contractor. The start of the works is planned after the breeding season that runs until mid-July 2025.
